peplum, netting, and lace

Hi everyone.  Sorry that I have been MIA.  Things have been super busy and my focus has been split in a million different directions.  Needless to say, I'm exhausted!  But life moves on with or without you, so I must adjust and power through!  =)  This past weekend, I had the absolute pleasure of coordinating a wedding for a beautiful couple.  They had quite a large wedding party but you know me, I love a challenge.  Hahahaha... The day ran pretty smoothly considering some bad traffic on the way to the Chicago Botanic Gardens.  Why the road that leads there is only ONE LANE is beyond me!  Talk about major traffic.  Three lanes converging into one, right before you reach the entrance?!  Not the smartest.  But besides that, everything else was amazing.  The weather was great and sunny and the bride looked beaaaaaaaaaauuuuuuuuutiful.  Congratulations S+A!  Thank you for letting me be part of your special day.

I decided to go for a lady-like look and keep things profesh, and instead of traditionally wearing a dress, I went for a top and skirt combo.  Since the peplum trend is well underway right now, I busted mine out.  =)  I absolutely love this top for a myriad of reasons.  One, low price.  Two, low back.  Three, green color.  Four, high neckline.  Five, black netting!  I love the texture the netting gives to this top.  In my opinion, it wouldn't be as cool without it.  The top is a bit loose around the mid-section on me and I haven't had time to get the top altered, so I belted it to hide that fact.  Belts work such magic.  If you have some tops or dresses that you think don't work on you anymore, play with belts and you would be surprised at shapes it can give you.  We didn't get any shots of my shoes because at this point in the day I was in flats that didn't really match.  =P  Being in my heels while running around the gardens would have been inefficient and a disaster.  When it comes to wedding coordination, the bride and groom come before fashion.  I switched to my heels during the ceremony.  =)  Thank goodness The Hubster was around to take shots while I was working.  Multi-tasking baby!  I hope you all had a great weekend!

It's gorgeous weather in Chicago!  Which means it's time to lotion up those ashy knees we have been hiding in our winter gear and bust out the short shorts.  =)  Hehehehe... On days that it teeters from a cool breeze and heat from the sunshine, I like to wear a loose slight open weave sweater with some simple denim shorts.  This sweater is so comfy and the open weave lets the breeze come through so I am not too warm.  It also comes in an electric yellow which I am thinking I also need in my closet.  Hehehe... I am definitely loving the sunshine we have been having.  I am instantly in a better mood.  I hope you all are having a great week.  It's almost the weekend and I've got a dinner with the girls to look forward to.  We are celebrating a birthday for my darling Jane!  Happy early birthday my love.  I can't wait to see my ladies!  Girls night out is a must to keep me sane.  By the way, what do you guys think of my new oversized envelope clutch?  I got two colors in this since it was such a great deal.  It's only $36 from Asos!  I got this lovely neutral color and a bold neon yellow color.  I adore the gold tab corner detail.  It comes a little stiff but will soften over time and use.  Definitely a fun accessory to have.  And let's not forget to mention my new kicks.  =D  I could not resist these B Brian Atwood Teatro sandals  (brown version here).  Perfect for spring/summer!  It took me a while to decide if I wanted brown versus gray.  Luckily my size makes these decisions for me since I couldn't find my size in the brown.  LOL.  <3

BIG PINK STRIPES

Hi again!  I've been waiting for the right light to get photos of my awesome new pants!  A few weeks ago, I got an email from Motel Rocks telling me that they would like to send me an item from their collection and I was totally ecstatic!!  Little did I know how hard it would be to pick out an item from all their amazing stuff.  But then I saw them.  A pair of super fun and super fab pink and white striped pants!  I fell in love instantly.  The big bold stripes just screamed for me to make them mine.  A week or so later, there they were at my doorstep.  And by doorstep, I mean the area underneath our condo mailboxes in the hallway.  They were a bit loose so I had to get them taken in which also took some time and they are also long.  But I'm used to all that being only 5 feet tall.  The waiting was worth it though because now they fit great and it's been kind of rainy and poopy lately so I probably would not have worth them for a while anyway.  I didn't get them hemmed shorter because sometimes I like the option of folding them up into a cuff, so it was the good ol' tuck and fold under this time around.  If you are more of a normal size and not travel size like me, I'm sure they would fit you just fine!  I'm so glad the Hubster and I could finally get around to shooting on a day there was some good sunlight coming in so I could share these pants with all you lovely people.  The material is not denim and is super soft.  I am wondering if these could be okay in the office.  Hey man, they are not jeans!  LOL.  I think it might be too soon for these in the corporate setting.  Thanks again to Motel Rocks for these amazing pants!  I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE them!  Everyone, please visit their site and peruse around.  They have lots of interesting and fun designs.  I know I've got my eye on a few more items.  =)

Also what do you think of my new hat?  I've never really been a hat person, but I have come to realize they sure are handy when your hair is just not cooperating.  Just be careful to check the wind speed.  I've definitely had to chase my hat down the street before.  Chicago is not called the "windy" city just for funsies.  I like the open holes on this hat.  It adds an interesting texture and design and is perfect for when it's a hot summer day and you need some air to get through to your dome.

Wednesday Wishlist 5/9/12

Happy Wednesday everyone!  So on my recent online perusing binge, I came across these AMAZING Brian Atwood shoes.  OMG aren't they GORGEOUS!?!?!  Fringe, check.  Chains, check.  Suede, check.  Platform, check.  Fabulous factor, TRIPLE CHECK!  I just want to curl up with them.  Sigh.  Definitely a drool worthy pair in my opinion and the definite highlight of today's Wednesday Wishlist.  I kept the rest of the outfit pretty simple to highlight the shoes.  A simple and classy black dress paired with a white blazer with a hint of edge on the design to match the edge of the chains on the shoes.  Simple jewelry and an understated but super adorable purse.  An outfit to stand out in the office that can go straight to happy hour and a night out on the town.  Woot!

TWO TONED, T-STRAPS, AND NEON CORAL

Greetings everyone!  I hope you all had a lovely weekend!  My little wish came true and the temps dipped a little so that I could wear my new trench.  I love the interesting design with the two different colors and layers.  The material is so soft and just drapes down effortlessly.  It's super comfortable and adds just the little bit of warmth when the weather is only a tad chilly.  Too bad it was also rainy and gloomy.  =P I went to go visit my fam bam this weekend and got to eat Olive Garden.  Woot!  I love their soup, salad, and breadsticks meal.  Zuppa Toscana for the win!  I rarely hit the suburbs since the drive is so long and traffic-y.  I think I will always be a city girl. I do love the open spaces the suburbs have to offer.  Wrigley had a blast running around in the yard.  He hardly gets a chance to roll around on grass.  These shots were taken in front of Papa DOS' house.  Always nice to visit where I grew up.  The house still looks the same and my room is still how I left it.  I also watched The Avengers!  OMG it's a must see!  I was so pleasantly surprised at how funny the movie was.  What did you guys do this weekend?

I also tried my hand at a top bun this day.  A sock bun is a tad too complicated for my hair skill set for the moment.  LOL.  It looks messy and there are pieces sticking out but overall I think it was a good first attempt.  I was surprised it only took 5 bobby pins to keep it up.  I am really bad at doing my hair so it's usually held up by a whole slew of claw clips.  Hopefully with some more practice, I can get better and it will look a bit neater.

Oh, and if you all are wondering about the neon coral PS1 I have here, it's a long and funny story.  The short version is that I helped my friend locate this color and size for her birthday present from her ever so sweet boyfriend.  It took me 3 days to find this elusive color and size.  And of course, she decides to go with the orchid color since it was more practical and will be appropriate for even fall and winter.  I myself, being more on the NOT practical side, loved the color and since it was so exclusive, I could not find the heart to return it.  So yes, I now have 2 PS1s.  The citron in large, and this lovely neon coral in medium.  I love the look of the medium.  This size overall looks better than the large.  However, I find it hard to fit everything in this size.  The large is the one I take to the office since I pretty much carry around my life with me during the week.  The medium is my perfect weekend bag and with summer coming up, will be a fun color to carry around.  =)  I was planning to get the medium at some point anyway so I guess it all works out in the end.  At least that's what I tell myself in my head.  LOL.

Heeeyyyyyyyy there!  Finally, I have some photos to share!  Things have been a little cray with me adjusting to my new job and new schedule and new commute and new routine.  Yikes!  Although, I think I finally have it down.  I have officially become a 'bus' commuter.  Before, I used to only take trains and had no idea how to use the bus system here in Chicago.  However, the bus has now become the most effective option to take me to my new office.  It does take me a little bit longer to get there but it takes me the closest to my destination.  This will definitely be key in subzero Chicago winters.  Work has been going really well.  Everyone is making me feel super welcome and I'm having fun discovering the area.  Although I am still working in the loop, Chicagoans know, when it comes to the work place, you pretty much stay within a two block radius.  I have yet to find a nail salon for my lunch time pedicures.

It's starting to feel like summer here in Chicago.  This particular day, the temperatures hit 80 degrees.  Crazy since it was just Saturday that the temperatures were in the mid 50s.  I feel like I am always talking about how fickle Chicago weather is.  Hahahaha... It does help explain the radical changes in outfits from one week to the next.  With the spike in temperature, I felt it appropriate to wear my yellow flowy dress.  It helps me feel sunny and cheery and also keeps me cool and breezy.  =)  Does yellow do that to you too?  I hardly have any yellow in my closet (except neons) but I do feel like it is a welcome addition.  I instantly felt happier after I put it on and had a little pep in my step.  I probably looked silly walking around with a little grin on my face.  What colors brighten your mood?

Wednesday Wishlist 5/2/12

Happy Wednesday everyone!  I've got a whole slew of items up on this one.  Hehehehe...  Probably because I have accumulated quite a bit since my last Wednesday Wishlist.  I'm loving bold striped pants right now and this pair is perfect for spring/summer.  It also has some super cute and dramatic back pockets.  I love clothes that have a funky twist to them.  I also have an affinity to chain bracelets.  Probably because my wrists are too small for bangles and they never fit me quite right.  Chain bracelets just look the best on me.  Tortoise shell sunnies are a classic and great summer pair must have.  The cat eye shape make these fun and flirty.  I've also been eyeing an awesome white bag since I don't have a white bag in my collection.  This Phillip Lim seems like it could fit all the things I bring around every day.  I am a large bag kind of gal.  I tend to bring way to much with me because sometimes you just never know where your day will take you.  I'm keeping this outfit easy breezy with a soft chambray shirt and stacked platforms as usual.  Final touches that pull it all together with a statement ring that matches the shoes and a white accent necklace to match the bag and we're done!

Which are your favorite pieces?  I'd love to know!
