Do you know how to make a piñata?  Neither did I, until I got invited to a piñata making party at ¡Ay Chiwowa!  I must admit, I blanked out on ideas of what to build and it was thanks to Billy Dec for pointing out the most perfect and well... obvious choice for our piñata... a shoe!  Thanks Billy!  But you know it couldn't be just an ordinary shoe.  =D  Thanks to my awesome piñata building team, we not only created what I think might be the FIRST Christian Louboutin piñata but we took home the win for best one made that night!  Woooooot!  And what did we win?  We won a VIP experience to ¡Ay Chiwowa! for us and a few lucky friends.  I am super excited because not only does this place have amaaaaaaaazing guacamole, which I could eat on the daily, they also have yum yum yummmmmmy margaritas!  And really what more do you need?  Well they do also have a semi private area in the back where sometimes there is a DJ that spins out some fun jams for when that tequila kicks in and your body decides it just HAS to shimmy shake.  And we all know how DOS likes to shimmy shake.

YOU can win your very own VIP Experience at ¡Ay Chiwowa! for you and a few of your besties!  So if you are in the Chicagoland area or will be in the next few months, enter and win yourself a goooood time!  Details down below.  Good luck and lots lots lots of love from myself and The Hubster!  Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

THE RETURN OF THE UNDERGROUND

If you haven't picked up on this little DOS fun fact by now, I'll let you know straight up.  I am a club rat... always have been.  I'll go to bars but it's not really my thing.  I love somewhere I can pile on layers of makeup, heavily smoke out my eyeshadow, wear my crazy long lashes, get dolled up head to toe, pull out my highest and hottest stilettos, drop it like it's hot for hours, and then stumble out into the sidewalk lookin' like a hot mess.  That's what I call a good night.  What seems like FOREVER ago, my favorite place THE UNDERGROUND, closed down for renovations.  To say that I missed it is an understatement.  I missed it so much that I went to three of their private preview parties that happened these past two weeks.  But yes, I must say, the wait was well worth it.  The windows to the boiler rooms, the brand new lounge section that doubles the size of the space, the gigantic wall of screens, the new plush couches, topped with the CIA vibes makes you feel like you've entered some sort of secret spy territory.  What hasn't changed however, is the music.  Oh GAWD the music.  Even if for some insane reason you don't love the new space, you will always have that music to get you through the night.  So really... where can you find me on my weekends and maybe even Thirsty Thursdays?  Uh DUH!  So what are you waiting for?  Make your reservations, get on a list and experience the magic.  I'll be there this weekend... will you?

DRUNK ON AY CHIWOWA!

So when a place like Ay Chiwowa contacts you and asks you if you would like to come in and taste their new tacos and tequila cocktails for their 5 day Cinco de Mayo celebration, you only say one thing.  Si!  Actually... HELL SI!  I got off work, went home, put on my stretchiest skinnies and my dog snarl tee and was zooming out the door.  Absolutely love this tee.  It says, feed me or I will rip out your carotid artery.  RAWR!  Bring on the nyummies!  If you  have no plans this weekend.  Definitely hit up Ay Chiwowa for their Cinco days of Cinco de Mayo Celebration!

These stole the show for me.  I absolutely loooooooooooooooooove the guacamole at Ay Chiwowa.  They have a mango guac that is out of this world!  I could eat guac all day errrrrrday.  This was also the first time I had their corn salsa and it was soooooooo good.  These two are a must have!

The steak taco was yuuuuuum!  I topped it with some guac and it was even better.  I think if I added some hot sauce it would have been even even even more better!  For some reason I love drenching mexican food in hot sauce.

Thanks to Tanteo for the yummy tequila drinks and trying to educate me on all things tequila-ish.  My favorite was the Blood Orange Paloma.  I can't really handle tequila that well.  I think college ruined that for me.  But this Blood Orange Paloma was perfect!  I could still taste the good parts of tequila without reliving the memories of being hunched over a dumpster outside of The Canopy from one too many cheap tequila shots.  (Only my U of I peeps will get that one)  But I thoroughly enjoyed this cocktail.  Actually I had about three.  Yummy!

The Shrimp taco was only okay.  Maybe because I just got back from Dallas where I had some bomb ass shrimp tacos so I was super biased.  It's worth a shot if you are curious.  =)

My fave taco of the night.  The pork taco.  Nom Nom Nom!

So what's my conclusion on Ay Chiwowa?  Go for the guacamole and corn salsa!  You will need something to soak up all that yummy tequila.  Their drinks are super tasty and packs a punch.  Don't just get one glass of margarita like a pansy.  Get a whole pitcher.  I was a pansy last night and it is not sitting well with me.  Disappointed in myself.  Also, because Underground has been under construction for what seems like FOREVER (man I miss it so much), the music at Ay Chiwowa is on point.  I wanna say it's the same DJs?  So that's really what makes it a win for me.  Good drinks, guacamole for days, and bumpin' music.  Woot!  So go celebrate cinco de mayo with the great staff at Ay Chiwowa.  You will NOT be disappointed.  They know how to have a good time.  Maybe I'll run into ya and eat your corn salsa.  =)

rockit's fourth annual chilifest

Gosh, Rockit takes such good care of me!  Here I am again at another tasting from my awesome pals at Rockit Bar and Grill.  Thank you guys for the invite and feeding me such deliciousness!  My first tasting was for their WingIt week long event.  This time it's for their upcoming Fourth Annual ChiliFest!  (<--- click for the details).  I would like to thank the amazing Executive Chef Amanda Downing for always taking care of me and The Hubster at each tasting and for giving us a personalized detailed description of the tastings.  Follow her on Twitter at twitter.com/amanda2581 and follow Rockit at twitter.com/rockitchicago and twitter.com/rockitwrigley right now for all updates about the awesome ChiliFest week long event!  I love love love chili.  Especially after a full day of snowboarding.  It's the only thing I think about on the way down the mountain.  A big bowl of chili.  But man oh man, chili at the slopes is nothing compared to the chili they are offering up at Rockit for their ChiliFest.  I'm pretty sure they have officially ruined all future chili moments on the slopes for me.  Unless a Rockit opens up at every snow resort or I kidnap Amanda and take her with me just to make me chili.  The Hubster said that the picture above looks like it's photoshop-ed.  LOL!  But it's not.  It actually took us 9 tries to get this picture and me having to put water on my forehead to make the card stick.  Yes, we are mucho dedicated to acting like fools for some chili... some darn good chili.

And of course... here are the deets straight from my favorite Rockit homies.  I think the most notable is that a portion of the proceeds go to the Greater Chicago Food Depository.  Gotta love food and philanthropy all rolled into one!

ROCKIT HEATS UP CHICAGO THIS JANUARY

Enjoy a Variety of Chilis Every Day during the week of January 23
Portion of proceeds benefits the Greater Chicago Food Depository

CHICAGO – Of all the things to enjoy during the cold winter months, perhaps no other dish fully encapsulates warmth, comfort and sustenance than a hearty bowl of chili. Rockit Bar & Grill, at 22 W. Hubbard in River North, and Rockit Wrigley, at 3700 N. Clark in Wrigley, take the celebrated dish one step further with our Fourth Annual Chilifest. Executive Chef Amanda Downing will offer guests a unique chili by the bowl each day of the week, as well as a standard daily repertoire of Chili preparations which include Chili Cheese Fries and Chili Mac. Recipes will also be revealed throughout the week via social media, just in time for Super Bowl parties! Chili-enthusiasts, take note!

Daily offerings include Chef Amanda Downing’s classic signature Turkey Chili (red kidney beans, shredded cheese and cilantro, for $7), Vegan Chili (lentils, soy sausage, edamame, bell peppers, cumin, tomato for $12), Chili Cheese Fries (crispy french fries topped with turkey chili and cheddar and jack cheeses, for $9) and Chili Mac (Turkey Chili on top of the signature Four Cheese Mac and Cheese, for $14).

Alright boys and girls, time to get nom-nom-noming!

One tasting set for me, and one for The Hubster.  From the left:  pork chili, bison chili, chicken chili

So which one was my absolute favorite?  Hands down the bison chili!  Omg it was so good and meaty.  Just the right amount of spice and little chunks of chorizo sausage that had a party in my mouth.  Drooooooool.  ChiliFest is running from Monday, January 23rd until Friday, January 27th with a different type of chili each day.  If I had to pick a day, I would pick bison day!  (Bison day is Wednesday).  But I would definitely try to hit up multiple days.  The Hubster's favorite was the pork chili which was also very good and very different.  It's made with green tomatillos instead of regular red tomatos.  They will also be having other chili items each day of the ChiliFest that are not specific to a day of the week.  Chili cheese fries and ChiliMac are on that list.  So make your reservation to ChiliFest like... right now.  And don't forget to bring DOS with ya!  I will end this post with something that has nothing to do with fashion and everything to do with nom-nom-noming in honor of some dank chili from Rockit.  =D  "Drop that beet!"
