retail therapy

My labor day off on Monday was spent with my fabulous fam bam.  I got to do some retail therapy to help me through the upcoming tax deadline and hellish two weeks ahead.  We ended up mostly at Water Tower Place trying to find my little sis a dress for homecoming.  Sigh, I do miss those highschool dances.  The closest I get to those are weddings.  But I don't get a corsage at a wedding.  Booooooooo.

The best dad in the world.  =)  He lets me pick out his clothes when we go shopping and yet he wears the same ol' Calvin Klein shirt and Levi's.  Hehehe adorbs!  Here he is happy with his toy.  Why oh why did he have to go with Nikon?  He did it on purpose so that I couldn't borrow any of his lenses.  Evil genius.  He loves coming to the city to take pics, visit me, and eat at Chinatown or Sun Wah BBQ.

Also gave my little seeeeeeeeester a try at the camera.  She needs more practice.  =)

This dress seems to be a winner.  I love shopping with my sissy!  She's so lucky that she's tall.  I made her try on 6 inch heels and she wanted to kill herself after 5 minutes.  Hehehe... I do love her cute moccasins or loafers.  She said she got them from Target last year for $12.  Darn her for not getting her big sis a pair!

Do you guys like my outfit?  Isn't it crazy that on Saturday I was wearing shorts and a bikini, then two days later I have to wear pants and a sweater and layers.

Here is my adorbs sister rockin' my Oliver People's Emelita shades.  We got obsessed with big nerdy glasses after watching Taylor Swift's "You Belong with Me" video.  Hahahaha we are so cool.  See we are the same height when she wears flats and I wear platforms.  I love you sissy!  =)

MY LOOT!  JK!  This was our cumulative damage.  Although, the giant bag from Aritzia is mine.  Hehehe...  Can't wait to show you guys what I got.  Some were sale finds.  Wahoooo!  =P

OH AND FYI.....

As of today, Thursday 9.8.2011...

play pen

Although I was knee deep in tax returns and work emails this past labor day weekend, I could NOT resist the opportunity to finally get out on a boat and play in the play pen on Lake Michigan.  It totally felt like a little mini getaway from such a rough work week and a pretty somber weekend for me (missing my mommy) and I definitely needed it.  I finally got to get on a jet ski for the first time ever.  Now I am all bruised up and aching down to my bones but it was totally worth it.  Nothing like doing something you've never done before to get you feeling energized and excited.  I was squealing with glee like a crazed maniacal person when I tried to go full throttle on the jet ski on my own.  Small advice, when you are riding, your suit goes all the way up your butt so make sure there is no one behind you following close or they will totally get a full view of your bedonk.  I'm talking major MAJOR wedgie alert!

These have been my favorite go to shorts for the summa!  I got them at PacSun when I was in LA and I'm so glad I did since I wore them out all season.  And they were only $30!  Wahoo!

AND I got to see my partner in crime, Jan Ban who is always out of the country for work and I hardly ever get to see her these days.  She definitely had fun watching me fly off of the jet ski a couple of times and face planting into the water.  I also got to hang with Vi who is such a cool chick.  Met a wonderful group of people who know how to have fun in the sun and also keep the fun going after the rain started coming down.  Thanks for letting us tag along last minute and letting me and the hubs hog the jet skis.  And thanks for the booze and food.  I swear next time, I will be more prepared and actual bring stuff to share.

Jan Ban in action!

Last minute update pic from Vi's camera  =)  Funsies!!

This is what happens when you pound beers.  Hehehe.. poor Vi

It's almost goodbye to summer.  Sad face.  The weather is starting to get colder.  Time to start putting away the summer gear and taking out the heavy sweaters.

Nom nom nom nom nom nom... oh hello there!  Gigantor close up picture coming your way!

Last Tuesday, DOS got invited to a special Media pre-event tasting for this year's WingIt Festiaval at Rockit Bar & Grill.  It's a week long event where Rockit puts out a different flavor of yummy wings for each day of the festival.  These special nyummies will be available on the menu for $10 for a dozen wings.

But of course before we sit, gotta take a few outfit snaps.  =)

Top - Urban Outfitters  |  Tank - Aritzia  |  Jeans - Jbrand  |  Jewelry - AT LOFT and F21  |  Watch - Marc Jacobs  |  Bag - Chloe Marcie

So here's the little description and info on the week long event.

Rockit Bar & Grill’s ‘WingIt’ is back for the third year in a row! Coinciding with the kick-off of football season, Executive Chef James Gottwald and Chef Amanda Downing put their culinary spin on the sports bar favorite and offer a delicious and original recipe for each day of the business week. Daily variations include Tuesday’s Polynesian Wings (scallions, grilled pineapple, rum red pepper glaze), Wednesday’s Greek Wings (wild oregano, garlic, lemon, feta cheese, tzatziki dip) and Friday’s Waldorf Wings (apples, walnuts, apple jack brandy glaze, blue cheese fondue). Foodies and sports enthusiasts…unite!

Rockit River North will be celebrating ‘WingIt’ September 12th – 16th and Rockit Wrigley will offer ‘WingIt’ on September 15th and 16th only. On a related note we will offer our signature Rockit Wings for $7 on Saturdays and Sundays for game days.

Here is the preview for the WingIt Menu.

For our tasting we got to try Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday.

#1 - Tuesday's Polynesian
scallions, grilled pineapple, rum red pepper glaze

#2 - Wednesday's Greek
wild oregano, garlic, lemon, feta cheese, tzatziki dip

#3 - Friday's Waldorf
apples, walnuts, apple jack brandy glaze, blue cheese fondue

I am posting two pictures because this one was my absolute faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaavorite!  DUNK don't just dip.. DIZUUUUUUNK the wing into that fondue sauce.  Oy vey it's so good.  If I didn't have a wedding to go to that Friday, I would be at Rockit ordering dozens of these.  So please go have some and tell me how good it is so I can relive it through you guys.  =)

We also got some other goodies from the regular menu.

Avocado Lobster - a must!

Tuna Tartar - I'm not a fan of tuna so this was more for Blog Nazi

And crab cakes - me love crab cakes

And of course Blog Nazi had to get dessert.  Quick don't look at the next picture and guess which one he got!

If you said Three Tier Banana Cake do a little mini-wave in celebration of your correct guess.  =)

Thank you Rockit and the wonderful staff for treating us so well.

dress/skirt? both!

Happy Friday everyone.  Thank goodness for a long weekend.  This was a long week at work.  Some notable highlights of my week included a special media tasting at Rockit (post coming soon), awesome girls night in and home cooked dinner by my sweet potato Youns, and impromptu lunch date with HJ where we didn't eat at all, we just went to Barneys and strolled around Oak Street.  Tell me about your week.  =)

This particular dress is actually not a dress at all.  Since I am a shorty, I have the worst time finding maxi dresses that I don't have to shorten.  My solution?  Find maxi skirts and wear them as dresses.  Hehehehe.  This one is my absolute fave because of all the layers, the fun edges on the layers, and a sexy slit up one side.  Woot!  You may recognize this from my very second post on this blog.  I wanted to give you guys a better look at it.  This is pretty much what I will wear to work these days.  Something easy to throw on and I just top it with a cardigan and I'm good to go.  I have a couple of maxi skirts that I use as a dress.  It's the easiest outfit ever.  =)

So if you are a shorty like me, try finding a unique maxi skirt and rocking it like a dress.  Trust me, no one ever guesses that it's supposed to be a skirt.  Go through your closet and try to find different ways to remix a piece of clothing.  You might just surprise yourself.  Happy hunting!  And have a great long weekend.
